COUNCIL ACTIVITIES

 

 

 

       The September meeting was called to order by the Grand Knight at 7:07 pm, followed
       by the “Our Father” and “Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag”. All officers were present
       except the Financial Secretary, Inside Guard, and 3rd Year Trustee.  A total of 14
       knights were present.  The minutes from the August were distributed to the members.
       After, a motion and a second made to accept the minutes.  A vote carried the
       motion.

   From the Grand Knight:

1.  The Grand motioned that Paul O’Brien, sponsored by John Wooldridge be accepted
     as a member of the Council.  A second was made and a vote carried the motion. Two
     other members were also accepted into the Council—John Hacker and Jim Hackley. 
     The latter is a transfer from Cassville, MO.

2.  The G.K. initiated a discussion on the next Tootsie Roll Drive.  Although the Tootsie
     Rolls were not ordered on time, other ways to obtain them were discussed.  Joe
     Schumaker, Insurance Agent, Charlie West, Deputy Director and others gave
     suggestions how to get them.  

3.  The G.K. mentioned certain bills which needed to get paid.

4.  The G. K. reported that through the help of Randy, our Council received a Star Council
     Award for last year.

5.  The G. K. mentioned the Bishop’s comments on the Knights involvement on the Moses
     Project.

6.  The G. K. next mentioned there will be a continual a 30 second radio anti-abortion
     segment beginning soon. He also mentioned there will be a meeting on Oct. 2nd at
     10:00 am in the St. Agnes Cathedral Pallati Center about the organization of Catholic
     Radio in Southern Missouri.

7.  The G. K. congratulated the 5 new 4th Degree Knights in the Council.  The new members
     were; himself, Erwin Mantei, John Bueno, Jim Tuckness and Ryan Neill.

8.  The G. K. mentioned a Thank You letter to us from Conception Abbey for our financial
     help.

        No report---no official Chaplin yet.           
           

 

 

 

     Treasurer's and Financial Secretary’s Reports:

 

        The Treasurer reported on the bills and money received from activities after the last
        council meeting.  Also, he mentioned that financial condition of the Council was in
        good condition.  No report from the absent Financial Secretary.

 

     

 

         

 

     Unfinished and New Business:

             Various items were addressed.

1.       Ben Francka reminded the Council of the Cathedral’s Centennial Conclusion, which
includes the 6:00 pm Mass celebrated by the Bishop, and the Pot Luck Dinner after.
A call for council members to help in the “setting up” and “cleanup” for the Dinner
was made.  Also, members were needed to hand out programs before the festivities.
Those interested should be there by 4:20 pm.

2.      The G. K. announced “Boo Fest” on Oct. 24th and outlined the activities with
 which Council Members are to be involved, including cooking burgers and hot dogs,
 etc.  He then encouraged members to sign up for these activities.

3.      The G. K. next mentioned the nature of a fund raising activity of Council 10154 in
Wentzville, MO.  That Council was selling a magnet Christmas ornament and asked if
our Council could use this for the same. A discussion followed with ideas from members
including, Joe Schumaker, John Bueno, Jim Tuckness, John Smithberg and John
Wooldridge.  It was decided that the G. K. would look into this in more detail before our
council makes a decision.

4.      John Smithberg led a discussion on the Bishop’s pamphlet concerning what Catholics
might consider before they vote in the next presidential ballot. More specifically, the
Bishop thought we should not vote to bring about something which is or will be
“intrinsically evil”.  A motion was made by John Smithberg to consider this. No second
was made and a motion was made to table this.  A second was made, and a vote carried
to table the initial motion.
 

5.      John Smithberg led a discussion on the tax exemption of the Council.

6.      It was mentioned that Andy Love was continuing his efforts on the activities involved in
the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program.  Students are presently preparing posters and essays
for this contest.  John Smithberg motioned that our Council contribute $100 to this program
to give $25 to each winner in each category. A second was made by John Kubicek, and a
vote carried the motion.

7.      It was mentioned that Randy Friga wanted to smoke 3 pound turkey breasts or briskets to
sell to parishioners for Thanksgiving and other celebrations.  It was decided to discuss this
in the Oct. Meeting.

8.      Charlie West discussed the Roses for Life and helped us organize the Councils activities in
that endeavor.

9.      Next, a discussion was made on whether the Council’s next Breakfast activity should be a
breakfast or an enchilada Meal.  It was decided by acclimation that we have an enchilada
Meal.  John Bueno volunteered to work with the Ladies Auxiliary to spearhead the Event
to be held from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm on Oct. 19th in the St. Agnes Cafeteria.  All council
members were encouraged to help.

 

      

 

 

 

     

 

      From the Insurance Agent:

     1.  Joe Shumaker reported on the Knight’s Insurance.  He also mentioned the Insurance is
          in excellent shape with no debt.

     2.  He also discussed the Council needs for more members.  The efforts should be shared by
          more than just “The Dirty Dozen” group.  He encouraged our members to keep doing
          what we are doing and to give more names of potential knight candidates from the parish
          to him so he could telephone them.

 

       

 

       From the District Deputy: 

      1. Charley West reported on the Roses for Life.


      2.  He also pointed out important upcoming dates, the Clay Shoot in Branson, and Form
           185 which needs to be filed to Supreme concerning the names of our the
           new officers for this upcoming year.

        The Grand Knight closed the meeting with the “Hail Mary” and “Glory Be”.
