COUNCIL ACTIVITIES The 23 March ,2010 meeting was called to order by the Grand Knight at 7:00 pm, followed by prayer, the “Our Father” and the ”Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag”; the former two being led by Fr. Philip. All officers were present except for the Recorder, Inside Guard, Outside Guard, and 2nd Year Trustee. A total of 19 knights were present. The reading of the minutes from the February meeting was forgone, due to difficulties had by the Acting Recorder. From the Grand
Knight: 1. The Grand Knight read applications for membership from Charles Martin (spoken for by Randy Friga) and Drew Saladem (spoken for by the Grand Knight, himself). Both were voted on and passed unopposed. 2. The Grand Knight read a preliminary list of candidates for the various positions in the upcoming officer elections (26 May, 2010 meeting) 3. A first degree initiation will be held 27 April,2010 at 4. John Kubieck was awarded his Lifetime membership. 5. Mention was made of an upcoming Clay Shoot; contact Randy Friga for more information. 6. The Grand Knight gave details of his pending relocation for military service, including explaining that from August through December he will be at training and then relocated to new assignment in either January or February of the following year (2011) 7. The Grand Knight mentioned the possible recruitment of the RCIA class after they come into the church at the Easter Vigil on 03 April, 2010. From the
Chaplain: 1. Father Philip made it known that Bishop James is rededicating the Diocese to Mary on 24 March, 2010 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Cape Gerardeau. St. Agnes Cathedral and the rest of the Diocese will say rededication prayers during Mass on Sunday, 28 March, 2010 (Palm Sunday) Treasurer’s and
Financial Secretary’s Reports: The Treasurer reported on the bills and money received from activities since the last council meeting. He mentioned that the financial condition of our council was in good shape. It was also reported that we had been able, this month, to give a check for $13,000 to Special Olympics; and we were able to deposit $125 in the 5% fund. The Financial Secretary also reported that we had been able to pay $395 in dues this past month. Communications: The Grand Knight read excerpts from a communication from Council #7678 from Lamar. They are close to their goal, to be able to have their church repaired from fire damage caused by arson. To raise remaining $160,000 they are having a golf tournament; to participate and help raise funds is $160 per team or sponsorship of a hole. John Wooldridge motioned that we sponsor a hole for $250, it was seconded by Ben Francka. It was then voted on and passed without opposition. Bingo Report: John Smithberg reported that so far Bingo at the Bingo hall has manage to bank about $40,000 and to donate about $66,000 to St. Agnes Cathedral Report of 4th
Degree: Forth Degree is being held in Kansas City, Missouri on 10 April, 2010. Knights David Cash and Chris Neal plan to be in attendance. Unfinished and
New Business: 1. Tim
Greise mentioned that this month’s Knights’ Breakfast was not as big a
success as hoped for, possibly due in part to the weather that weekend. The Breakfast still managed to make a net
profit of $19.13. 2. The
3rd Annual Monsignor John H. Westhues, Sunset Stroll was also
covered by Tim Greise. It is scheduled
for 07 May, 2010, 6 pm to 12 am. This
year he plans to reach out more to other parishes to advertise the event and
possibly even to the Mirror, the Diocesan newspaper. He also expressed an eagerness to get
started within the next two weeks and to look in to ideas for
pre-registration. All interested
knights were asked to meet with him after the formal meeting was over. 3. John
Smithberg brought up the fact that on
Sunday,11 April, 2010, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. There will be a Wine Tasting and
silent auction at the Knights’ Hall of Council 698. Admission is $30 in advance and proceeds go
to benefit St. Agnes’ and St. Joseph’s tuition assistance programs. 4. Deacon
Mark Wand made it known that once again the trash corral needed to be cleaned
out of debris, and he asked if his fellow knights could help by hauling away
the debris in a truck. James Tuck volunteered his truck to haul away the
debris and scheduled a time for the knights to get together to load up the
truck. The scheduled pick up date is
Saturday, 27 March, at 8 am. 5. The
next Knights’ Breakfast is scheduled for Sunday, 18 April, 2010 at the normal
hours, with the suggested and unopposed menu item being Biscuits and Gravy,
as was suggested by Tim Greise 6. The
Grand Knight then suggested that, expanding upon an idea and conversation
with Fr. Philip; the Knights invite the men of the parish to participate in a
softball game for fun on Sunday, 16 May, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the St. Agnes
School playground softball field. The
idea passed unopposed. 7. The
Grand Knight let it be known that the Knights’ color guard will be pulling
duty at the Special Olympics, held at MSU’s Plaster sports complex, on
Wednesday, 26 May, 2010 at 7 pm.
Knights are encouraged to show up and show their support. 8. Randy Friga reported on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade that in the cold there was much food shared with the stormtroopers and that there were about 10 people representing the Knights of Columbus riding in the float. Much fun was had by all. From the
Insurance Agent: Agent was not in attendance. From the
District Deputy: The District Deputy just had a reminder that the Chrism mass is on Wednesday, 31 March, 2010. Pray for Special
People: Paul O’Brian, fellow knight and friend of John Wooldridge, has been moved to nursing home and is in need of our prayers. John Warden and James Keltner, fellow Knights are on the parish’s sick-list and in need of our prayers. Randy Friga’s friend John Deevers is also in need of our prayers at this time. Close of
Meeting: The Grand Knight closed the meeting and Father Phillip said the closing prayer and led us in the “Hail Mary”. |
